Researchers at the Ecology Center, a Michigan-based
nonprofit group, tested more than 1,500 popular toys for lead, mercury, arsenic,
and other chemicals of concern. Lead was found in 20 percent of the toys
tested -- more than any other chemical. Almost 11 percent of the toys had lead
levels above the limit recommended by the American Academy of
